If the formal biography isn’t enough, here’s a little more about me. I grew up in Central New York (which is a distinctly different area than Upstate New York, and is about 4 hours driving distance to New York City). I was born an only child, but have non-biological siblings, and family that has been like siblings to me. I like to say I got the best of both worlds: being an only child, and also having siblings!

I lived in France twice, first as an exchange student, and then later to teach English in French elementary schools, where I was paid to teach and live in France, and only actually worked two days a week! It was a pretty sweet gig. During the second stint in France, I also traveled widely, to Luxembourg, Italy, England, Ireland, Spain, and many towns and cities in France. While it’s been many years since living abroad, I still consider myself proficient in French. And once I start reading, listening, or speaking in it, it comes back quickly!

Meet Boots & Rusty

In the spring of 2019, Mr. Nichole and I decided it was time for some more furry friends. We had wanted a dog for a while, but our poor kitty could not tolerate puppies, so we waited until she was no longer with us to consider it. When we began our cursory search, we read about Boots & Rusty, but we weren’t quite ready – our yard hadn’t been fenced, and we’d planned some out of town trips, and we didn’t want to bring any fur babies home and then leave them again so quickly. So a few months later, when we were ready, Boots & Rusty were (fortunately for us, but not so much for them) still available.

Looking for a bonded pair was actually the goal, because we are gone a lot with work during the day, and we didn’t want a dog to be lonely. While some people thought we were insane for looking at two dogs instead of one, we knew it was the right call for us. Boots and Rusty came home with us the day we met them, and we couldn’t be happier.

Here’s a shot of Boots & Rusty at Halloween, waiting for the trick-or-treaters.
